Women's Track & Field Finishes Solid at Coast Guard

Corsairs post 10 performances in the top 10

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The UMass Dartmouth women's track & field team was in action on Saturday, competing at the Coast Guard Spring Invitational at the Coast Guard Academy in New London, Conn. The Corsairs saw a number of outstanding efforts, including 10 finishes in the top-10.
 
The field events kicked off with the javelin throw as junior Mia Mejia-Maalouf took 11th overall with a throw of 27.62 meters (90-07). Sophomore Grace Russell posted a mark of 24.49 meters (80-04) to finish 19th overall as senior Alexa Lemieux posted 20th with a distance of 22.82 meters (74-10).
 
In the shot put, the Corsairs had a strong showing, paced by senior Kate Hockenbury, who was sixth overall with a distance of 10.79 meters (34-04.75). Junior Neisha Boiteux finished 10th overall with a mark of 10.29 meters (33-09.25), while rookie Emily Hesketh was right behind in 11th with a mark of 10.15 meters (33-03.75). Senior Amanda Little was 13th overall in the shot put (9.87 meters – 32-04.75), while rookie Ana Tarason was 17th overall (9.38 meters – 30-09.25).
 
Sophomore Isabella Taccogna finished ninth in the triple jump with a mark of 9.52 meters (31-02.75), also posting 21st overall in the long jump with a mark of 4.28 meters (14-00.50). Hesketh went on to place third overall in the hammer throw with a mark of 42.78 meters (140-04), while Boiteux was sixth with a mark of 36.89 meters (121-00).
 
Sophomore Lauren Donlan was seventh in the hammer with a mark of 35.33 meters (115-11), while Little took ninth overall in 34.46 meters (113-00). Hockenbury finished 17th overall with a throw of 31.21 meters (102-04) as Mejia-Maalouf was 19th with a throw of 27.82 meters (91-03).
 
The final field event was the discus throw as Boiteux paced the way in sixth with a mark of 34.20 meters (112-02). Little posted 13th overall with a throw of 28.94 meters (94-11), while Donlan and Tarason were 26th (23.14 meters – 75-11) and 27th (22.88 meters – 75-00), respectively.
 
The track events opened with the 1500-meter run saw junior Bee Greenberg post 32nd overall in a time of 5:18.25, while grad student Emma Steedman finished 36th, crossing in 5:21.96. In the 100-meter hurdles, rookie Briana Caman was 18th overall with a time of 18.43 as classmate Kyla Palmer finished 18th in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:13.13.
 
In the 800-meter run, Greenberg took 14th in a time of 2:35.74, while Steedman was 18th in 2:38.27. Junior Anya Aadland was 25th overall in 2:44.22 as classmate Julia Latura was 33rd in a time of 2:54.42.
 
Russell powered to ninth in the 400-meter hurdles, crossing the finish line in 1:15.53, while in the 200-meter dash, sophomore Petrashea Johnson was 24th in a time of 28.76. Rookie Allie Kimball finished 27th in the event with a mark of 28.83.
 
The 5000-meter run saw rookie Sarah Lynch finish 19th overall in 20:58.87, while the 4x400-meter relay comprised of Kimball, Caman, Palmer and Russell, combined for a time of 4:37.11 – good for 10th overall.
 
The Corsairs return to action next weekend with a pair of meets. UMass Dartmouth will send a number of student-athletes to Connecticut College for the Silfen Invitational on Friday, while others will head to Saturday's Jerry Gravel Invitational at Westfield State University.
