WORCESTER, Mass. – It was a solid day of action to open the 2024 NEICAAA Open New England Championships for the UMass Dartmouth men's and women's track and field teams at the College of the Holy Cross. Neither team posted points on Friday, but both had outstanding efforts in both the field and track events.
In the men's javelin throw, junior Connor Richard finished 10th overall in the field with a throw of 56.54 meters (185-06). The women's hammer throw saw rookie
Emily Hesketh place 19th overall with a distance of 42.47 meters (139-04).
Senior Scott McDonough went on to place 11th overall in the long jump, recording a distance of 6.70 meters (21-11.75). The men's hammer throw saw junior Joseph Uwanogho finish 23rd overall with a mark of 45.47 meters (149-02).
In the track events, senior Cameron Rodgers had an outstanding effort in his preliminaries of the 110-meter hurdles, advancing to the finals with a collegiate-best time of 14.36. That mark eclipsed his all-time best of 14.45. Rodgers went on to post a qualifying time of 53.73 in the 400-meter hurdles, advancing to Saturday's finals.
Senior Jake Paris posted a solid finish in the 5,000-meters, taking 11th overall with a time of 15:09.97.
The Corsairs will see several student-athletes in action on Saturday in the final day of competition at Open New Englands. First events for the Corsairs get underway at 11am.
