WORCESTER, Mass. – Behind a number of outstanding efforts on the day, the UMass Dartmouth men's and women's track and field teams finished solid at the 2024 NEICAAA Open New England Championships on Saturday at The College of the Holy Cross. The Corsairs men finished 22nd of 39 teams, while the women's side did not record a point despite a number of strong performances.
In the men's high jump, sophomore Vincenzo Videtta placed 11th overall with a height of 1.86 meters (6-01.25), while in the women's discus throw, rookie
Emily Hesketh finished 16th overall with a distance of 34.25 meters (112-04). Junior
Neisha Boiteux placed 18th in the discus, posting a mark of 25.08 meters (82-03).
The men's triple jump saw rookie Zyeem Charles place 10th overall with a jump of 13.56 meters (44-06.00), while the men's discus throw saw junior Joseph Uwanogho place 13th with a distance of 45.25 meters (148-05).
In the track events, the men's 110-meter hurdles saw senior Cameron Rodgers finish fourth overall with a time of 14.53, while Rodgers finished third in the 400-meter hurdles, notching a time of 52.60.
The women's 3,000-meter steeplechase, graduate student
Emma Steedman posted 16th overall in a time of 12:00.41, while junior
Bee Greenberg crossed the line in 19th with a time of 12:17.62.
The men's 4x800-meter relay saw the foursome of rookies Zack Schute and Cameron Thompson along with graduate students Vinny Gardner and John Ziegler posted 10th overall with a time of 8:05.23.
Rounding out the action was the women's 4x400-meter relay, which finished ninth overall as junior
Julia Latura along with sophomores
Isabella Taccogna,
Tori Schweitzer and
Grace Russell combined to post a time of 4:27.67.
The Corsairs will see several student-athletes return to action on Thursday, competing at the MIT Final Qualifier.
