SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – The UMass Dartmouth men's and women's track and field teams opened action at the 2024 Division III New England Championships on Friday afternoon, hosted by Mount Holyoke College. The Corsairs competed in eight different events on day one with solid results that have the men's team sitting seventh of 24 teams, while the women's side has not posted a team score through the opening events.
In the men's javelin throw, junior Connor Richard posted 12th overall with a throw of 53.00 meters (173-10), while the women's hammer throw saw rookie
Emily Hesketh place 14th overall with a mark of 42.88 meters (140-08).
The men's hammer throw saw junior Joseph Uwanogho post an outstanding throw of 55.50 meters (182-01) - marking a collegiate-best effort. In the men's long jump, senior Scott McDonough had a solid effort as well, finishing sixth overall with a distance of 6.93 meters (22-09.00) – just shy of his all-time collegiate mark.
In the track events, senior Cameron Rodgers qualified for Saturday's 110-meter hurdle finals, hitting a season-best time of 14.49 – just shy of his all-time best mark (14.45). Classmate Jake Paris had a solid showing in the men's 5,000-meters, posting sixth overall in a personal-best time of 15:05.75.
The men's 10,000-meters saw senior Frank Wenner record 12th overall with a time of 33:58.12, while the women's 10k saw junior
Bee Greenberg was 21st with a time of 41:04.93.
The Corsairs return to action on Saturday, kicking off a number of events at 11am at the Track & Turf Complex at Mount Holyoke College.
