DARTMOUTH, Mass. – On Wednesday afternoon, the UMass Dartmouth women's tenis team was bested by Russell Sage College, 6-3, during non-conference play. The Corsairs fell to a 5-2 overall record with the loss while the Gators improved to 4-1 on the season.
In doubles play, sophomore
Maddie Gonzalez and graduate student
Emma Collings secured the first win of the day with an 8-3 victory in No. 1 doubles. The Gators, however, took No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, both by a score of 8-4, to enter singles action with a 2-1 edge.
Collings defeated Emma Nuzzi (6-2, 6-3) to improve to a five-match win streak at the No. 3 singles and evened the score at 2-2. Sage Russell regained a 4-2 lead following back-to-back wins in No. 6 and No. 1 singles, respectively.
Junior
Zuri Walters battled with Tirzah Spivey in No. 2 singles, but fell by a final score of 6-3, 6-1 to give the visitors a 5-2 advantage. After the Gators took a 6-2 lead with a victory at No. 4 singles, sophomore
Saige Croce finished the afternoon with a three-set win (7-6, 4-6, 10-6) over Noella Morris. Croce secured her fifth win in singles play with the victory, her fourth at No. 5 singles, to end the match by a final score of 6-3.
UMass Dartmouth returns to Little East action on Saturday, Sept. 21 playing at Bridgewater State University. The match is scheduled to begin at 2:00 pm on the Dr. Henry Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts.
