NEWPORT, R.I. – The UMass Dartmouth women's tennis team were blanked by Salve Regina University on Tuesday afternoon by a final score of 7-0. The Corsairs fall to 5-3 on the season while the Seahawks picked up their second victory on the year.
In doubles action, junior
Zuri Walters and sophomore
Saige Croce battled against Kaydin Pinto and Stephanie Davis in No. 1 doubles spot. Sophomore
Sofia Beltran and first year Kiera Pierre matched up versus Madigan Murphy and Sadie Rieg in No. 2 doubles, but the Corsairs headed into singles play trailing 1-0 after the Seahawks secured 6-0 wins in both No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.
Pinto put Salve Regina up 2-0 in the contest after earning a 6-0, 6-0 win in No. 2 singles against Beltran. Croce faced Murphy in No. 3 singles action falling 6-1 in set one before getting tripped up in the second set, 6-0, to give the Seahawks a 3-0 edge.
Pierre, making her collegiate debut for UMass Dartmouth, competed against Natalie Barros in No. 5 singles. She was handed a 6-1, 6-0 loss before first year
Eren Adamiak was bested by Elena Murdock in No. 4 singles to seal Salve Regina's 7-0 win over UMass Dartmouth.
The Corsairs travel to Regis College on Thursday, Sept. 26 for their next non-conference tilt scheduled to begin at 3:30 pm.
