Women's Tennis Tripped Up by UMass Boston, 8-1, in LEC Play

DARTMOUTH, Mass – The UMass Dartmouth women's tennis team hosted UMass Boston for Little East Conference (LEC) action on Saturday afternoon, falling by a final score of 8-1. The Corsairs were handed their first league loss while the Beacons improved to a 3-0 conference record.
 
In doubles play, Zainab Patel and Lydia Chan swept in No. 1 doubles, 8-0, while Elena Albano and Ayonna Stuppard secured an 8-1 win in No. 2 doubles to put the Beacons up 2-0. First year Kayli Langan and sophomore Sofia Beltran paired up in No. 3 doubles to defeat Tatiana Malone and Shreya Rakshana by a score of 8-4 to make it 2-1 entering singles action.
 
After UMass Boston jumped up to a 4-1 lead with victories in No. 1 and No. 5 singles, respectively, junior Zuri Walters battled against Chan in No. 2 singles. Walters trailed a set after Chan took the first set by a score of 6-0. Walters fought back in the second set before falling 6-2 to give UMass Boston a 5-1 lead in the match.
 
After trailing down a set in No. 6 singles, Langan fought back against Rakshana before getting tripped up 6-3 in the final set. Beltran contested with Albano in the No. 4 singles spot, but was bested by a final score of 6-1, 6-2.
 
Graduate student Emma Collings battled against Stuppard in No. 3 singles action coming up short in the first set by a set score of 6-4. Stuppard cemented the Beacons victory on the road following a 6-1 win in the second set to defeat the Corsairs 8-1.
 
UMass Dartmouth continue conference action on Tuesday, Oct. 4 at Rhode Island College with a 3:30 pm start time.
