Women's Soccer Bested by Suffolk on the Road

BOSTON, Mass. –  The UMass Dartmouth women's soccer team were bested by Suffolk University on Tuesday night after falling by a final score of 2-0 on the road in non-conference action. The Corsairs now own a 1-2 overall record while the Rams improved to 2-0 on the season.

The Rams registered the first shot on target with Jazmya Harris putting the ball on frame at the 1:06 mark forcing an early save by sophomore goalkeeper Grace Conti. Harris fired two more shots on goal, both of which Conti stopped, approaching the 20th minute of the game.

Suffolk came close to finding the back of the net at the 21:37 mark after Chelsea Fallon's shot attempt bounced off the woodwork. Junior Antonella Goncalves fired a strike midway through the half but her shot veered wide of the net. Fallon had one late chance before the break, but Conti snuffed her shot to keep the score level at 0-0 heading into halftime.
The home team kicked off the second half with back-to-back to shots on target to test first year goalkeeper Tori Russo who checked into the game for the Corsairs. Goncalves drilled a shot on frame to produce the first save of the game for Rams goalkeeper Arden Ferrari-Henry at the 62:42 mark.

Suffolk found the back of the net with just under 13 minutes remaining in the game thanks to a score by Maci Pekmezian to put the Rams up 1-0. Soon after, Suffolk doubled their advantage at the 81:16 mark with a goal by Fallon to seal the Ram's victory by a final score of 2-0.

The Rams outshot the Corsairs by a 22-5 margin and held a 15-2 edge in shots on-goal. Suffolk also earned only two corner kicks in the contest. First year Lilly Jaeger and Goncalves each ended the night with two shots apiece while senior Kaitlyn Nguyen recorded one shot in the game. Conti posted seven saves in the first half of the contest allowing no goals while Russo produced six stops in the second half and allowed two goals.

UMass Dartmouth remain on the road for their next non-conference game against the Colonels of Curry College on Saturday, Sept. 7 with a 12:00 pm kickoff.
