PROVINDENCE, R.I. – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth field hockey team were tripped up on the road at Johnson & Wales University, 5-0, in non-conference action on Wednesday night. The Corsairs fell to a 1-12 overall record on the season while the Wildcats moved to an 8-5 mark on the year.
The Wildcats opened the game by registering four shots including one on frame to produce the first save of the night for Corsairs goalie

Carly Wang posted the first shot of the contest for UMass Dartmouth that was blocked. Shortly after, Emma Ferrara gave the home team a 1-0 edge with her goal at the 10:10 mark of the first period. Junior
Arlene Johnson responded early in the second period by firing a shot that went just wide of the Wildcats cage. Trailing 2-0 after a score by Emily Downing, Johnson & Wales continued to apply pressure on the Corsairs defense, recording nine shots in the final few minutes of the period. Cueman stopped three of the nine shots to keep the game locked in at 2-0 at the break.
In the third period, Cueman stood her ground saving six of seven shots in the first five minutes of action to keep the Wildcats off the scoreboard. Junior
Ava Lozeau then ripped a shot on frame to force a save by Wildcats goalie Sophia Brea at the 36:02 mark. The Corsairs then earned their fourth penalty corner of the night resulting in back-to-back shots by junior captain
Sophia Bouffard. Johnson & Wales cemented their victory in the final period of the game scoring three goals enroute to a 5-0 home win from Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.
The Wildcats outshot the Corsairs 36-6 in the contest with a 22-2 shots on-goal differential. Johnson & Wales also earned eight penalty corners compared to UMass Dartmouth with six corners on the night.
Bouffard ended the game with three shot attempts including one on frame while Lozeau tallied one shot on target for the Corsairs. In the cage, Cueman shouldered the loss after making 17 total saves and allowing five goals while her counterpart recorded two stops for the Wildcats.
UMass Dartmouth returns to Little East Conference play on Saturday, October 18
th traveling to Plymouth State University for a 4:00 p.m. league matchup.
