BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Backed by a number of solid efforts, the UMass Dartmouth women's volleyball team recorded a 3-0 (25-14, 25-13, 26-24) victory at Bridgewater State University on Friday night. The Corsairs move to 16-6 on the season, while the Bears are now 10-4 overall.
Sophomore opposite
Olivia Seutter led the way with 12 kills, notching just three errors on 29 swings for a .310 hitting percentage. She added a block solo and a block assists with a dig. Junior setter
Skye Peters recorded 20 assists with a service ace and five digs, while senior defensive specialist and captain
Emily Pogorelec posted a match-best 15 digs. Senior setter and captain
Sabrina Bordone had a match-best three service aces, while junior opposite
Maddie Carter had a block solo and a block assists with five kills.
After a solid win in the opening set, the Corsairs jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the second frame. Leading the way were kills from Seutter and junior outside hitter and captain
Allison Pate, along with a block assist by Seutter and Carter. The Bears pulled it to within 10-7, but a 5-0 run, aided by a number of errors by the home team, made it a 15-7 UMD lead.
The Corsairs closed out the frame, going 4-0 at the end, which included a kill by rookie middle blocker
Aleek Kuot along with a service ace by Pate for the 25-13 score.
Third set action proved to be a back-and-forth affair as an attacking error by the Corsairs tied the match at 7-all. UMass Dartmouth opened an 11-9 lead – behind a kill from Seutter – but a 3-0 run saw the Bears take the 12-11 lead.
UMass Dartmouth regained the lead, taking advantage once more on consecutive errors by the Bears, but the home team surged back into it. Bridgewater State used a five-point swing to take a 22-20 lead. Back-to-back kills by Carter tied it at 22-all and the Corsairs grabbed the 24-23 lead on another BSU error.
The Bears rebounded and tied things up at 24-all, but an ace from Bordone and a kill by Peters closed out the match victory for the Corsairs.
UMass Dartmouth returns to action on Saturday, traveling to VTSU Castleton for an 11am showdown against the Spartans in LEC action. The Corsairs will then face Mass. Maritime at 1pm, also at VTSU Castleton.
