Women's Swimming Opens 2025-26 Season at Western New England

Corsairs collect five first place finishes in season-opener

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth women's swimming team kicked off the 2025-26 season at Western New England University on Friday evening from the Alumni Healthful Living Center. The Corsairs finished the dual meet with 59 total points while the Golden Bears secured their first victory of the year with 164 points.
 
Senior Isabella Gerardi had a strong performance for the Corsairs in their opening meet of the season after collecting two first place finishes. She started the meet by earning first overall in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 12:48.93. Gerardi captured her second win of the evening in the 200-yard butterfly after clocking in at 2:47.62. She also posted a second-place finish in the 50-yard butterfly for the Corsairs with a time of 31.16.
 
Senior Kylie Winer also grabbed a pair of first place finishes for UMass Dartmouth in their season-opener at Western New England. Winer earned her first win of the season in the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 35.92. In the 200-yard breaststroke, Winer secured her next first place finish after clocking in at 2:44.27.
 
In her collegiate debut, first year Abby Fernandes won her first-ever event in the 100-yard individual medley with a time of 1:12.70. She also competed in the 50-yard freestyle finishing in 28.10 which was good for second overall.
 
Coach's Corner
"We had a great first meet," said head coach Michael Kroll, entering his second season at the helm for the Corsairs. "It set the tone for both our in the water performances and energy on deck."
