Field Hockey Bested by Roger Williams at Home

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth field hockey team were bested by Roger Williams University, 7-0, in non-league action on Wednesday night from Cressy Field. The Corsairs fell to a 1-10 overall record with the loss while the Hawks improved to a 9-4 mark on the year.  
 
The Hawks grabbed an early 1-0 lead thanks to a goal by Maddy Monahan in the opening two minutes of play, respectively. Roger Willaims continued to apply attacking pressure firing seven shots featuring five stops by Corsairs goalie Shane Cueman. Shortly after the Hawks doubled their lead at the 6:33 mark, junior captain Sophia Bouffard recorded her first defensive save of the night to deny a shot by Chelsea King. In the last five minutes of the first period, Anna Kruggel put Roger Williams ahead 3-0 heading into the second period.
 
Despite a quick score by Eva Wood to extend the visitors lead to 4-0 in the second period, the Corsairs defense was able to hold the Hawks to three shots for the remainder of the opening half. In the third period, the Hawks added a pair of scores featuring the second goal of the night for King to pull away with a 6-0 advantage. After Emiley Vinciguerra scored the seventh goal for Roger Williams in the fourth period, Bouffard tallied her second defensive save of the night. Cueman posted a pair of stops in the final minutes of action, but the Hawks secured the win by a final score of 7-0 from Cressy Field.
 
Roger Williams finished the contest with 31 total shots including 20 on target. The Hawks also earned 14 penalty corners while the Corsairs had one corner in the game. The visitors committed 33 total fouls compared to UMass Dartmouth with 17 fouls called.
 
Bouffard produced her third game with two defensive saves for the Corsairs bringing her to 11 total on the season. Cueman registered 11 total saves and allowed seven goals in the cage for UMass Dartmouth.
 
The Corsairs hosts Southern Maine on Saturday, October 11 for their next Little East Conference (LEC) game scheduled for a 12:00 p.m. start time.
