Field Hockey Bested at Eastern Connecticut State in Regular Season Finale

Bento scores first career goal against the Warriors

MANSFIELD, Conn. – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth field hockey team were bested on the road at Eastern Connecticut State University in the regular season finale on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 7-1. The Corsairs conclude the 2025 campaign with a 2-17 overall record and an 0-6 mark in Little East Conference (LEC) play while the Warriors finish the regular season with an 11-8 overall record.

The Warriors were on the attack early in the opening period of the contest with sophomore goalkeeper Shane Cueman producing two stops in the first eight minutes of play, respectively. After Cueman added two more saves to finish the first period, Eastern Connecticut State got on the scoreboard in the second period with a score by Emma Sanson at the 17:39 mark to give the home team a 1-0 edge.

The Warriors continued to apply pressure to the Corsairs defense with five unanswered shots, but Cueman came up with the three stops to keep the game locked in at 1-0 at the break.

Eastern Connecticut State extended their lead in third period after cashing in three goals to take a 4-0 advantage. After Grace Barlage made it a 5-0 game with a quick score in the final period, UMass Dartmouth responded by earning their second penalty corner of the contest at the 51:14 mark.

Junior defender Sophia Bouffard received the ball and sent in a pass to senior captain Lillian Bento who slotted the ball into the back of the cage to make it a 5-1 game. Despite the Corsairs late efforts, the Warriors cemented their home victory with two more goals to defeat UMass Dartmouth by a 7-1 final score in the regular season finale.

Bento notched her first goal of the season, also marking her first collegiate goal as a Corsair, against the Warriors for two points on the afternoon. Bouffard finished the game with one assist, her third of the year, while first year Olivia Palm wrapped up the game with one shot on target.

In the cage, Cueman posted 14 total saves and allowed seven goals in the regular season finale. Her counterpart produced one stop and allowed one goal in the cage for Eastern Connecticut State.
