Boyd, McNair Sweep LEC Weekly Awards

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Little East Conference (LEC) released its first report of weekly awards for men's basketball featuring two student-athletes from the UMass Dartmouth men's basketball team. Senior guard Nic Boyd was tabbed the LEC Player of the Week while first year guard Mahdee McNair earned LEC Rookie of the Week honors. 

Boyd had an outstanding 2025-26 season opening weekend for the Corsairs after scoring 39 total points, averaging 19.5 points per game, to start the year 2-0 overall. The senior guard went 14-for-30 from the field for a 46.7 shooting percentage including seven made three-pointers (7-14) and a perfect 4-for-4 from the charity stripe. Boyd also finished the weekend with 14 assists, three rebounds, and a pair of steals. 

The senior guard dropped a team-high 18 points against Brooklyn College in a dominate 102-59 season home opening win on Saturday during the annual UMass Dartmouth LaFrance Hospitality Tournament. He also led the squad with seven assists, marking a career-high for the veteran guard, while posting one board and a steal. On Sunday, Boyd guided the Corsairs to a thrilling 84-83 victory over No. 25 ranked Saint Joseph (Conn.) with a team-high 21 points (7-14 FG, 3-5 3FG, 4-4 FT). The Portland native recorded seven assists again along with two rebounds and a steal in the championship game and was named the 2025 LaFrance Hospitality Tournament Most Valuable Player for his performance on the weekend. 

McNair had a breakout performance for UMass Dartmouth after scoring 32 total points, averaging 16 points per game, on the weekend. He aided the Corsairs to a 2-0 start on the young season with five assists, four rebounds, four steals, and a block. 

In his collegiate debut, McNair posted 13 points after going 6-for-11 from the floor for a 54.5 shooting percentage against Brooklyn on Saturday. He also tallied four rebounds, four assists, four steals, and one block versus the Bulldogs. In the championship game, the rookie guard scored 19 points (7-15 FG) featuring a team-high five three-pointers (5-9) to help UMass Dartmouth edge nationally-ranked Saint Joseph (Conn.) by a final score of 84-83. McNair was later selected to the 2025 LaFrance Hospitality All-Tournament Team for his performance on the weekend.

Boyd, McNair and the Corsairs return to action on Wednesday, November 12th playing at Bridgewater State University for their next non-conference tilt slated for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff.
