BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The UMass Dartmouth women's basketball team were bested by Bridgewater State on the road, 73-56, in non-conference action on Wednesday evening. The Corsairs are now 0-2 on the young season while the Bears secure the win in their 2025-26 season home opener.
The game got off to a slow start before sophomore guard
Elizabeth Gresian laid in the opening bucket to give the Corsairs an early 2-0 edge. The Bears responded with an 8-2 run to take an 8-4 lead featuring a good layup by graduate student guard
Yasmine Santos. Graduate student guard Kaila Puritt clipped in the first three-pointer of the evening to put UMass Dartmouth ahead, but Bridgewater State closed out the opening quarter strong with 10 unanswered points to go ahead 18-12.
First year guard
Jillian Doherty finished a layup for her first collegiate bucket to get the Corsairs offense going in the second quarter. Shortly after, first year guard
Riley Graveline made both shots from the free throw line to make it 24-16 game. Emily Quinn knocked down a triple for the Bears at the 6:20 mark to pull away with a double-digit lead. Santos kicked off a 9-0 run with a made layup that was finished off by a triple from senior guard
Cristina Negron to make it 33-28 with less than a minute left in the opening half. First year guard
Amanda Ebenezer laid in a late bucket to cut the Bears advantage to six points at the break.
Bridgewater State started the third quarter strong with a three-pointer from Reese Bartlett to extend their lead to 30-39. Santos and senior guard
Kasey Oliver each answered for the Corsairs combining for 10 points to tie the score up at 41-apecice with 4:19 on the clock. The Bears fought back scoring 10 points in the last four minutes of action to regain 51-44 advantage entering the final quarter of the contest.
Bridgitt O'Sullivan notched the opening four points for the Bears to take a 55-44 lead early in the fourth quarter. Ebenezer responded for UMass Dartmouth with good layup off the feed from Oliver. Doherty later disrupted an 8-0 Bears run with her jumper at the 4:39 mark. Santos scored the final eight points of the game for the Corsairs, but the Bridgewater State cemented their season home opening win by final score of 73-56.
Santos led the team with a game-high 19 points (6-12 FG, 7-9 FT) to go along with six rebounds, one assist, one steal, and a block. Oliver finished the game with eight points (2-7 FG, 1-3 3FG, 3-4 FT) and a team-high four assists. Gresian hauled in a career-high 10 rebounds (2-8) as well as a career-high four steals against the Bears to go with five points and three assists.
UMass Dartmouth travels to Smith College for their next non-conference game on Wednesday, November 19 scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start time.
