Men's Hockey Posts LEC Win at New England College

Corsairs record first win in LEC conference play in 2-1 victory

HENNIKER, N.H. - The UMass Dartmouth men's hockey team notched its first-ever Little East Conference victory in a 2-1 win at New England College on Saturday at Lee Clement Arena. The Corsairs improve to 3-3-0 overall and are now 1-1-0 on the season in the LEC.

The Corsairs opened the game's scoring at 5:15 of the first as senior left winger and assistant captain Tyler Stewart connected off a feed from rookie center Kailin Chen. Sophomore defenseman Tristan Boyer was credited with the secondary assist on the play. New England College answered at 13:25, tying the game up on a score by Graham Hassan.

UMass Dartmouth netted the go-ahead goal at 13:33 of the second period as rookie forward Chris Cardillo notched his first collegiate goal on a feed from classmate and forward Liam Fecteau. The Corsairs worked to add another goal in the third period, but Pilgrims netminder Danny Miscavish stopped a number of shots, including off the stick of Stewart, rookie forward Ryan Patrick and back-to-back shots from sophomore defenseman Brennan Pecararo to keep the Corsairs off the board again.

On the other end of the ice, senior goalie Marshall McKallip stopped eight shots in the third period alone - for a game total of 39 saves to preserve the victory for the Corsairs. Miscavish made 19 saves in the loss for NEC.

UMass Dartmouth returns home next weekend for their inaugural weekend of LEC hockey action. The Corsairs welcome Norwich on Friday at 5:30pm, followed by VTSU Castleton at 4:30pm on Saturday with both games being played at Hetland Arena.
