WESTFIELD, Mass. – On the heels of earning Gold Helmet Award honors on Sunday, UMass Dartmouth junior
Mekhi Wilson has been named the Offensive Player of the Week by the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) following his outstanding effort in Saturday's 42-21 win over Plymouth State.
It was a banner day for Wilson in the win over the Panthers as he posted a career-high 218 yards on 23 carries with five rushing touchdowns for the second time this season. He added a score in the air as well to account for all of UMass Dartmouth's scoring. Wilson eclipsed the single season record for rushing touchdowns in a season with 18, surpassing the previous mark of 16 set by J.T. Harold in both the 2007 and 2008 seasons.
Additionally, Wilson finished with the third-most rushing yards in a season behind Harold (1567) in 2008 and Shawn Theriault (1535) in 2003. He also posted the second-most rushing attempts in a season with 278, behind Theriault (305) in 2003. Wilson finished his junior campaign posted 100+ yards in eight of the Corsairs 10 games.
Wilson opened the game's scoring at 10:40 of the first quarter, making it a 7-0 lead following a 10-yard rush. He added to the score with a nine-yard run at 3:49 to give UMD the 14-0 lead
Wilson posted another 10-yard run for the touchdown at 13:03 of the second to tie the single-season record and then he went on in the third quarter to break the single season record, notching rushing touchdown #17 on the season after a 1-yard run at 3:57 for a 28-14 advantage. Wilson answered in the fourth with a 12-yard catch and a six-yard rushing score to close out the victory for the Corsairs.
In 10 games this season, Wilson leads the MASCAC in rushing yards with 1,294 - which is 452 yards ahead of second place in the conference. With 214 carries, he is averaging 129.4 yards per contest - which also ranks first in conference play. His 18 rushing touchdowns on the season are currently seven more than second place and he did not fumble the ball at all during the 2025 season. Amongst the best in Division III, he ranks seventh in rushing touchdowns and eighth in both rushing yards and rushing yards per game.
The Corsairs concluded their 2025 season with a 6-4 overall record, going 6-3 in the MASCAC.
