DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Powered by nine first place finishes, the UMass Dartmouth women's swimming team defeated Elms College, 109-76, to secure their first win of the season on Friday evening from the Tripp Natatorium. It marks the first victory for the Corsairs since the 2022-23 campaign after defeating both Plymouth State (125-115) and Western Connecticut State (113-108) on January 14th.
Seniors
Isabella Gerardi and
Kylie Winer each had strong performances for the Corsairs after each of them collected three first-place finishes apiece against the Blazers. Gerardi posted a time of 12:53.58 to earn her first win of the meet in the 1,000-yard freestyle. She went on to secure first overall in both the 100-yard butterfly (1:11.87) and the 500-yard freestyle (6:16.03) for UMass Dartmouth.
Winer opened the meet with a dominate 2:09.86 win for the Corsairs in the 200-yard freestyle. The senior swimmer then closed out strong with a pair of victories in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:15.42) and 200-yard individual medley (2:25.85).
Sophomore
Emiyah Setalsingh also had an impressive day for UMass Dartmouth after picking up a first-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:15.70. She also collected a pair of second place finishes in the 50-yard backstroke (34.69) and 50-yard freestyle (29.65).
First year
Abby Fernandes captured first overall in the 50-yard breaststroke after clocking in at 38.45. The rookie swimmer also earned second place finishes in the 100-yard freestyle (1:01.48) and 50-yard butterfly (32.53).
Graduate student
Grace Nguyen made her collegiate debut for UMass Dartmouth against Elms capturing a third-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 38.64.
