Men's Basketball Tripped Up by Southern Maine, 89-73

GORHAM, Maine – The UMass Dartmouth men's basketball team were tripped up on the road during Little East Conference (LEC) action on Saturday afternoon against the University of Southern Maine by a final score of 89-73. The Corsairs dropped to 6-8 in LEC record while the Huskies also improved to a 6-8 record in conference play.
 
The Corsairs started strong with first year Camden DiChiara going 1-for-2 from the line followed by a jumper from junior Ryan Flauto to give the team a 3-0 early lead. First year Danny Reyes posed his first bucket of the game at the 16:09 mark before Dichiara added a triple to make it an 8-8 game. Shortly after sophomore Trent Sanots knocked down a triple for the Corsairs, Bryce Lausier answered with a three pointer to tie the score up at 15-apiece with ten minutes left to go in the first half.
 
Graduate student Isaac Percy finished an and-one play to give the Corsairs an 18-15 edge at the midway point of the opening half. The Huskies then generated a 13-2 run kicked off by a triple from Diego Colon to give the home side a 32-23 advantage approaching the last five minutes of the half. DiChiara soon answered for UMass Dartmouth with a three-pointer off the feed from junior Nic Boyd. Junior John Marcille joined in with a bucket from behind the arc to make it 36-31 Huskies with 2:28 on the clock. Southern Maine outscored UMass Dartmouth 8-0 to end the first half and take a 44-31 lead at the break.  
 
Huskies came out strong to start the second half extending their lead to 51-31 on a 7-0 run. Flauto and DiChiara each finished an early bucket for the Corsairs, but Southern Maine continued to grow their lead to 20-points. Following a Huskies timeout, Santos clipped in a pair of three pointers to make it 59-45 Huskies. Flauto went on to score the next five points for UMass Dartmouth featuring an and-one play nearing the midway point of the second half. Junior Cam Dunbury posted his first bucket of the afternoon off the assist from Reyes to make it a 65-54 game with 10:09 remaining in the contest.
 
Dunbury completed an and-one play after Evan Willey committed the foul to narrow the Huskies lead to nine points. Southern Maine kept battling building a 12-0 run to claim an 83-62 cushion and force a UMass Dartmouth timeout. Dunbury answered for the Corsairs scoring the next four points before Reyes knocked down a triple to make it 85-69. Santos made a jumper in the final minute of the game, but the Huskies sealed the victory by a final score of 89-73.
 
Four Corsairs ended the game in double figures with Sanots (5-12 FG, 3-7 3-FG) and Flauto (6-10 FG, 1-1 FT) each scoring 13 points. DiChiara concluded the game with 12 points (4-10 FG, 2-6 3-FG, 2-7 F) to go along with seven rebounds, two assists, two steals, and a block. Dunbury tallied 11 points going 5-for-7 from the field and recording five boards and a team-high two blocks. Marcille hauled in a team-high eight rebounds along with seven points (2-14 FG, 2-9 3-FG, 1-2 FT) and a team-high three steals.
