DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Despite a five-goal effort from sophomore midfielder Maddy Allen, the UMass Dartmouth women's lacrosse team fell in their 2025 season home opener against Bridgewater State University on Wednesday afternoon by a final score of 17-11. The Corsairs start the season 0-1 with the non-conference loss to the Bears who improved to a 3-0 mark on the year.

Shortly after Bridgewater State took an early 1-0 lead in the contest, Allen scored the first goal of the 2025 season for UMass Dartmouth from the free position to tie the game back up at 1-1. The Corsairs capitalized on the man-advantage in the final two minutes of the opening period thanks first year attacker Jenny Lipanovich lacing the ball past Bears goalie Sara Skaff from the free position to make it 2-2 heading into the second.

Trailing 4-2 in the second period, Allen netted her second goal of the day off the assist from Lipanovich to cut the Bears lead down to one with 5:41 remaining in the first half. Bridgewater State quickly answered producing three goals in a row, featuring a pair from Ashley Silva, to go ahead 7-3. The Corsairs fought back by scoring three straight goals in the last three minutes of the period which was kicked off by graduate student Kyra Lyons. Lipanovich scored approximately a minute later for her second of the afternoon before first year Kyra DiBiase tallied her first goal with 15 seconds left on the clock to make it a 7-6 edge for the Bears at halftime.

UMass Dartmouth picked up where they left as Allen and Lipanovich each scored one goal apiece in the opening two minutes of the third to give the home team their first lead of the game at 8-7. Bridgewater State responded by netting five unanswered goals to take a 12-8 advantage at the end of the third period. Allen kicked off the final period of the contest by scoring her fourth goal, however Camryn Gonsalves buried a pair of goals for the Bears to maintain a 14-9 edge. First year Claire Altshuler fired the ball into the back of the net for her first goal of the season, but the Bears held on for the remainder of the game to earn their third win of the year by a final score of 17-11.
