NORTON, Mass. – The UMass Dartmouth women's lacrosse team secured their first win of the 2025 season at Wheaton College by a final score of 12-7 on Saturday from the Nordin Field. The Corsairs improved to a 1-1 overall record with the non-conference game win over the Lyons who dropped to 0-2 on the season.

Keira Bushey recorded two early saves for the Corsairs in the opening couple of minutes of play. Shortly after, sophomore attacker
Maddy Allen earned her first goal of the afternoon to give UMass Dartmouth a 1-0 edge. Wheaton responded by producing the next four shot attempts, two of which hit the post, before Riley Kilbourn found the back of the net to tie the contest at 1-1. With under five minutes left in the first period, Allen went on to score three consecutive goals including one man-down goal to put the Corsairs up 4-1 at the end of the first.
The Lyons soon cut the Corsairs lead back down to one-goal early in the second period as Kilbourn and Gabs Smart each posted a score apiece to make it 4-3. At the 5:11 mark, first year attacker
Jenny Lipanovich netted her fourth goal of the season. Not too long after, first year attacker
Claire Altshuler and Allen both added a goal to put UMass Dartmouth ahead 7-3 heading into halftime.
Lipanovich opened the scoring in the third period drilling the ball past Lyons goalie Averie Walton with 9:44 on the clock. Wheaton cut UMass Dartmouth's lead in half as Smart buried the ball from the free position spot to make it 8-4. Late in the period, the Lyons capitalized with the man-advantage scoring two quick goals to narrow the Corsairs lead to 8-6 entering the final period.
UMass Dartmouth answered early in the fourth period as Allen scored her sixth goal of the game soon followed by a score from first year attacker
Adella Mabee, marking her first collegiate goal. Although the Lyons scored their third goal from the free position spot, the Corsairs sealed their first win of the season as graduate student
Kyra Lyons and Lipanovich each netted a goal apiece in the final two minutes of action to defeat Wheaton by a final score of 12-7.
Despite the score, the Lyons outshot the Corsairs by a 35-23 margin, but UMass Dartmouth edged Wheaton 13-10 on draw controls. The Corsairs also made 18-of-25 clear attempts while the Lyons recorded 17-of-18 clears in the game. UMass Dartmouth had 21 turnovers compared to Wheaton's with 13 turnovers and both teams produced 21 ground balls apiece.
Allen led the Corsairs for the second straight game this season with her six-goal performance, bringing her to 11 total goals so far this season, along with two assists for eight points. Lipanovich ended the afternoon with three goals, her second consecutive hat trick of the season, to go along with one assist, four draw controls, three ground balls, and a caused turnover. Mabee, Altshuler, and Lyons each produced one goal apiece to help UMass Dartmouth earn their first victory of the season. Sophomore midfielder
Lily Nees won a team-high five draw controls for the Corsairs while Lipanovich concluded the game with four draw controls.
Bushey picked up her first collegiate win in net for UMass Dartmouth after registering 13 total saves and allowing seven goals to move to a 1-1 record. Her counterpart posted six saves for the Lyons and allowed all 12 goals after playing the entire contest.
The Corsairs host Salve Regina College for their next non-conference tilt on Tuesday, Mar. 4 starting at 4:00 p.m. from Cressy Field.
