Allen, Lipanovich Lifts Corsairs Over Salve Regina, 13-11

Corsairs take down Seahawks for the first time since 2018

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Sophomore Maddy Allen and first year Jenny Lipanovich lifted the UMass Dartmouth women's lacrosse team over Salve Regina University, 13-11, during non-conference action on Tuesday evening thanks to their five-goal efforts. The Corsairs defeat the Seahawks for the first time since 2018, moving to 2-1 on the year with their second consecutive victory on the young season.

Allen, recently named Little East Conference (LEC) Player of the Week, opened the scoring with her goal at the 11:22 mark to give UMass Dartmouth a quick 1-0 edge. Salve Regina responded by netting four straight goals from four different Seahawks to take 4-1 lead approaching the last six minutes of the opening period. Graduate student midfielder Kyra Lyons and Lipanovich each found the back of the net late in the first period to make it a 5-3 game.

Trailing by two-goals early in the second period, Cameron Baston scored her fourth goal of the season to double Salve Regina's advantage to 6-3. At the 7:22 mark, Allen laced the ball into the back of the net from the free position spot to kick start a 3-0 run for the Corsairs. Lipanovich notched her second of the day followed by a score from first year attacker Claire Altshuler to tie the game up at 6-apiece. Nora Cooney scored a late free position goal for the Seahawks just before the break to regain a one-goal lead at halftime.

First year Kyra DiBiase started the third period strong for the Corsairs drilling the ball into the net off the feed from Lipanovich to once again even the score up at 7-7. After Allen notched her hat trick at the 9:52 mark, Lipanovich scored back-to-back goals to give the home team a 10-9 edge entering the final period of the game.

Allen kicked off the fourth by netting her fourth score of the evening with Altshuler picking up the assist to extend UMass Dartmouth's advantage to 11-9 with 13:32 on the clock. After Edie Threshie made it a one-goal game with her score at 8:46, Lipanovich answered quickly for UMass Dartmouth with her fifth goal of the contest to take a 12-10. Allen buried her fifth score with 1:46 left in the game to seal a 13-11 victory at home for the Corsairs.

Allen and Lipanovich led the team after scoring five goals apiece and each tallying one assist for six points in the game. The five-goal effort by Lipanovich marks a new career-high for the rookie attacker who also recorded two caused turnovers, one draw control, and a ground ball. Allen posted four draw controls in the win along with three ground balls. DiBiase, Altshuler, and Lyons each ended the evening with one goal apiece to power the Corsairs over the Seahawks. Sophomore Lily Nees registered a career-high 12 draw controls against Salve Regina while Allen and first year defender Jade Munoz each led the team with three ground balls.
