Softball Sweeps on Day Four of THE Spring Games

Corsairs secure second shutout win of the season over Ursinus

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The UMass Dartmouth softball team swept on day four of THE Spring Games to move to 6-2 overall on the young season. The Corsairs opened the day defeating Fontbonne University, 4-3, before shutting out Ursinus College by a final score of 8-0.
 
In game two, the Corsairs snagged an early 2-0 lead in the first inning which was kick started by strong base running from senior Kinu Takasugi. The veteran outfielder stole third base before tagging home on a fielding error by the Bears third baseman to take a quick 1-0 edge. Sophomore catcher Olivia Silva then doubled down the left field line for an RBI to double UMass Dartmouth's advantage to 2-0.
 
In the bottom of the second inning, junior Raelynn Perregaux tacked on another run for the Corsairs after a sacrifice fly to score classmate Emma Talpey home. UMass Dartmouth continued to pull away with an 8-0 lead after registering five runs in the bottom of the third inning. With the bases loaded, senior Jillian Walsh reached first on a fielding error to bring Silva home and go up 4-0. The next at-bat, Talpey gave the Corsairs a 6-0 lead with a two RBI double after drilling the ball to right field.
 
Takasugi picked up an RBI with her ground out to second base that tagged Walsh home as an unearned run. Senior infielder Larissa Piessens wrapped up the inning by lacing the ball to right field for an RBI single to take a commanding 8-0 lead over the Bears. UMass Dartmouth held the Bears offense to just two hits in the final two innings of the game to secure their sixth win of the season.
 
Takasugi ended the game with a team-high two hits on three at-bats to go along with on RBI and a stolen base. Talpey posted two RBIs and a pair of runs after going 1-for-3 at the plate while Perregaux finished the game going 1-for-2 with one RBI and one run. Silva and Piessens also ended the day with one hit and one RBI apiece while Walsh tallied a one run and one RBI against the Bears.
 
First year pitcher Edy Crawford picked up her second shutout win on the mound after throwing a complete game for the Corsairs. She gave up zero runs and six hits on 48 total pitches while also striking out three batters.

UMass Dartmouth plays their final double header of THE Spring Games on Thursday, Mar. 13 starting at 4:15 p.m. against Catholic University. The Corsairs conclude the tournament versus Lasell University at 6:30 p.m. from the Fortune Road Athletic Complex.
