BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The UMass Dartmouth softball team swept Bridgewater State University on the road in non-conference double header action on Tuesday evening to move to 10-2 on the season. The Corsairs blanked the Bears 8-0 in game one before earning their second win of the day by a final score of 7-2.
The Corsairs jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning which was kicked off by junior infielder Raelynn Perreguax with an RBI fly out to score senior
Emma Talpey home. Shortly after, sophomore

Larissa Piessens home on a ground out to the Bears shortstop to give UMass Dartmouth a quick 2-0 advantage. First year pitcher
Edy Crawford, making her sixth start on the mound, posted her first strikeout of the game in the bottom of the first inning to keep the Bears off the scoreboard.
UMass Dartmouth extended their lead in the top of the second inning producing three runs off three hits to take a 5-0 edge. Senior outfielder
Jillian Walsh posted an RBI single to bring sophomore
Lily Routhier home to make it 3-0. Talpey then drilled the ball through the right side for an RBI to double the Corsairs advantage. Piessens scored sophomore
Olivia Ali home with a sacrifice fly to pull away with a five-run lead.
Crawford registered four more punch outs and allowed just one hit in the following two innings for UMass Dartmouth. In the top of the fourth, Talpey gave the Corsairs a 6-0 lead after recording their second RBI of the game scoring junior
Sydney Menz. UMass Dartmouth tacked on one run apiece in the final two innings of the contest to cement their 8-0 shutout over the Bears.
Talpey ended the game with two RBI after going 2-for-3 at the plate with one run and a stolen base. Piessens also went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two runs, and an RBI. Walsh and Ali each produced two hits on three at-bats for the Corsairs in addition to stealing one base apiece. Perreguax and Tsonis also recorded one RBI apiece in game one against the Bears while Routhier finished the contest with two runs.
Crawford secured her fifth win in the circle to go 5-1 after throwing a complete game along with her third shutout of the season. She allowed just five hits and struck out seven batters on 90 total pitches.
The Corsairs bats continued in game two posting one run on three hits to claim a quick 1-0 lead. With runners on the corners, Routhier singled through the 5-6 hole to bring Talpey home and give UMass Dartmouth the early 1-0 lead. After the Bears tied the game up at 1-1, Talpey grounded out to first base which scored sophomore outfielder
Liv Matos home to regain a 2-1 edge in the top of the second.
The Corsairs pulled away in the top of fourth inning cashing in five runs off six hits to go up 7-1. Matos got the bats going with her RBI single to take a 3-1 advantage before Perreguax and Routhier each tallied an RBI double to go six runs clear of the Bears. Despite a late run in the bottom of the fifth, UMass Dartmouth held onto their lead to secure the sweep at Bridgewater State by a final score of 7-2.
Talpey finished the game going 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. Routhier led the team with her 3 RBI after going 2-for-3 at the plate featuring one double. Perregaux notched two RBI along with one run and a double with two hits on four at-bats. Matos also ended the game with an RBI going 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs and a double. Junior
Jessica Keefe recorded the lone stolen base for the Corsairs after going 1-for-3 in the game including one run and a double.
Routhier secured her fifth victory on the mound this season to improve to a perfect 5-0 mark. She threw 4.2 innings allowing just two earned runs and five hits after facing 19 batters. Routhier recorded two strikeouts in the game on 78 total pitches. First year pitcher

UMass Dartmouth will host Wheaton College for their season home opener on Friday, Mar. 21 for a non-conference double header. Game one begins at 3:00 p.m. followed by a 5:00 p.m. start time for game two at the UMass Dartmouth Softball Field.
