DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Powered by several multi-run innings, the Roger Williams baseball team posted victory over UMass Dartmouth in non-conference action on Wednesday evening. The Hawks move to 4-7 overall with the 28-12 victory, while the Corsairs slip to 7-6 on the season.
After a four-run opening inning by the Corsairs, that saw back-to-back sacrifice fly to build up the advantage, the Roger Williams' bats responded with a 10-run top of the second anchored by a two-RBI single to center off the bat of Chris Balzano.
UMass Dartmouth answered in the bottom of the third, cutting the deficit to 10-6 behind a two-run home run from senior third baseman
Jake San Antonio.
In the fourth inning, the visiting Hawks put up another big inning, posting four runs, including a grand slam home run from Rory Lynch to break open the game at 15-6.
Bottom of the fifth saw the Corsairs answer once again, this time with a bases loaded opportunity of their own as senior outfielder
Liam Blesi sent the ball over the wall, narrowing the gap to 15-12.
Despite the momentum, UMD could not hold off the visitors as they posted four runs in the top of the sixth and eight in the top of the seventh to make it a 27-12 game. The Hawks added a final run in the top of the ninth for the final margin.
Blesi finished with a hit, two runs scored and four runs batted in, while San Antonio also had a hit, two runs scored and three RBI. Junior centerfielder
