BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. – Paced by a five-goal effort from sophomore
Maddy Allen, the UMass Dartmouth women's lacrosse team downed Massachusetts Maritime Academy, 14-6, on Wednesday night during non-conference play from the Clear Harbors Stadium. The Corsairs are now 6-3 on the season with their third consecutive win while the Buccaneers fell to a 2-5 overall record.
Allen was the first to test Buccaneers goalie Christiane Rech just four minutes in the game, respectively, with her shot that Rech denied. A few minutes later, Brady Deschamps gave the Buccaneers a 1-0 edge with her score at the 8:37 mark. The Corsairs registered six late shot attempts, but the Buccaneers held on to their one-goal lead heading into the second period.

Jenny Lipanovich put UMass Dartmouth on the scoreboard with her goal to tie the game up at 1-1. Shorty after, first year
Kyra DiBiase gave the Corsairs their first lead of the contest after burying the ball from the free position spot. With less than a minute left in the half, Allen slotted the ball into the net for her second of the night to send UMass Dartmouth into the break with a 3-1 advantage.
Early in the third period, first years
Adella Mabee and
Claire Altshuler each tallied a goal to put the Corsairs ahead 5-2 in the game. Allen then kickstarted a 4-1 run netting a pair of goals while Lipanovich notched her second score of the night to make it 9-4 entering the final period. UMass Dartmouth finished the game strong, outscoring the Buccaneers by a 5-2 margin featuring goals from sophomore
Abby Pitts and first year
Jade Munoz to secure the win by a final score of 14-6 on the road.
Allen led the team with five goals along with one assist for six total points on the night. She also recorded seven ground balls, four draw controls, and two caused turnovers. Altshuler tallied a pair of goals and one assist for three points in the win while also winning three draw controls and scoping up two ground balls. Lipanovich produced two goals as well as for two points along with two ground balls and one caused turnover.
DiBiase, Mabee, Pitts, Munoz, and Lyons all recorded one goal apiece to help secure the third straight win for the Corsairs. Sophomore
Lily Nees led the squad with her season-high eight ground balls to along with four draw controls.
In net, first year goalie Keria Bushey picked up her sixth win of the season after making seven total saves and allowing just six goals on the night. Rech finished the game with 14 stops and allowed 14 goals in the loss for the Buccaneers.
UMass Dartmouth hosts Little East Conference opponent Rhode Island College for their upcoming Senior Day game on Friday, March 28. The game is scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m. from Cressy Field.
