Women's Lacrosse Bested by Southern Maine, 13-4

GORHAM, Maine – The UMass Dartmouth women's lacrosse team were bested by the University of Southern Maine, 13-4, during a Little East Conference tile on Saturday afternoon from Hannaford Field. The Corsairs dropped to 2-1 in league action with the road loss to the Huskies who improved to a 3-0 conference mark.
 
The Huskies took a 7-0 lead after the first period as Eliza Pattershall notched a hat trick in the opening 15 minutes of play for the home team. After Southern Maine scored their eighth goal of the afternoon in the second quarter, sophomore Maddy Allen put UMass Dartmouth on the scoreboard just before the break to make it a 9-1 game heading into halftime.
 
Southern Maine maintained attacking control in the third period after scoring three unanswered goals to take a 12-1 advantage. After Kiaya Gatchell notched the 13th score for the Huskies, Allen tallied her second goal with 12:41 left in the final quarter. A few minutes later, first year Jenny Lipanovich netted her first score of the day. Allen registered her third goal in the final two minutes of the game, respectively, but Southern Maine sealed the conference win over UMass Dartmouth by a final score of 13-4.
 
Allen led the team with her hat trick for three points after recording 5-of-7 shots on-goal with five draw controls and one ground ball. Lipanovich notched one goal against the Huskies for one point after posting 3-of-3 shots on target along with two draw controls, two ground balls, and a caused turnover. Sophomore Tori Roberts led the squad with four ground balls as well as a pair of caused turnovers while classmate Lily Nees produced two draw controls in the loss.
 
First year goalie Keira Bushey picked up the loss in net for the Corsairs after allowing 13 goals and posting 11 saves on the afternoon. Her counterpart allowed four goals while recording 10 stops in net for the Huskies.
 
UMass Dartmouth travels to UMass Boston for their next Little East showdown on Wednesday, April 9 starting at 6:00 p.m.
