Field Hockey Falls on the Road Against Clark

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth field hockey team fell against Clark University, 7-0, in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon from Granger Athletic Complex. The Corsairs dropped to a 1-5 overall record with the road loss to the Cougars who improved to a perfect 5-0 mark on the season.
 
Clark opened the scoring early in the first period with a goal by Alison Kopec to put the home team up 1-0 in the game. The Cougars recorded four more shots in the period with junior captain Sophia Bouffard posting a defensive save to keep the game at 1-0 heading into the second period.
 
In the second period, Clark scored two quick goals back-to-back midway through the period to make it a 3-0 contest. The Cougars fired 6-of-7 shots on frame with Corsairs goalie Shane Cueman recording all six stops in the cage. Kopec scored for the second on the afternoon late in the period to give the Cougars a 4-0 lead at the break.
 
The Cougars produced four unanswered shots to start the third period featuring a pair of saves by Cueman. Junior Brooke Lydon tested the Cougars goalie Rachel Reiter at the 37:10 mark with a shot on target that Reiter was able to stop. The Corsairs trailed 5-0 entering the final period of the game after a late score by Clark in the third period. The Cougars tacked on two scores in the last four minutes of action, respectively, to cement their 7-0 home win.
 
Lydon and senior captain Lillian Bento each recorded one shot on frame in the game for UMass Dartmouth while junior Arlene Johnson and first year Carly Wang produced one shot apiece.
 
Cueman posted 17 total save in the cage for the Corsairs and allowed seven goals on the afternoon. Reiter recorded two stops in the opening half of the game before Loren Root finished the second half for the Cougars.
 
UMass Dartmouth is back on the road facing Salve Regina University on Tuesday, Sept. 16. The non-conference game is scheduled for a 6:00 p.m. start time.
