DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth women's tennis team defeated the University of Southern Maine, 6-1, in the opening match of Little East Conference (LEC) play on Saturday afternoon. The Corsairs improved to a 2-1 overall record with the win and start conference action with a 1-0 mark while the Huskies dropped to a 1-2 overall record and 0-1 in LEC play.

Dean put the Corsairs ahead 2-0 with her No. 3 singles win against Hanni Johnson by a final score of 6-1, 6-2. First year
Gianna Doiron defeated Alexis Hayward at No. 6 singles (6-1, 6-0) to extend the Corsairs advantage to 3-0.
Shortly after, Gonzalez picked up her second straight singles win at No. 2 singles to make it a 4-0 match. Sophomore
Sofia Beltran handed her Huskies opponent a 6-4, 6-0 defeat at No. 5 singles to pull away with a 5-0 lead on the afternoon. Sophomore
Alyson Tobias sealed the 6-1 victory for UMass Dartmouth with her first career singles win at the No. 4 spot by a final score of 6-2, 6-4 to secure the first conference win of the season.
UMass Dartmouth returns to the court on Friday, Sept. 19 traveling to Russell Sage College for their next non-conference tilt.
