Women's Tennis Comeback Seals 5-2 Win at Western New England

Three Corsairs secure three-set wins in road victory

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth women's tennis team battled back against Western New England University on the road to earn their fifth win of the season by a final score of 5-2. The Corsairs improved to a 5-2 overall record with the non-conference victory over the Golden Bears who dropped to a 1-3 mark on the year.
 
First years Mya Dean and Gianna Doiron teamed up at No. 2 doubles to secure the first win of the afternoon for UMass Dartmouth. The Golden Bears fought back in No. 1 and No. 3 doubles to claim the opening point of the match and take a 1-0 edge.

The Corsairs trailed 2-0 early in singles action after Western New England picked up a win at No. 3 singles. Sophomore Sofia Beltran responded with a 7-5, 6-2 victory at No. 4 singles to make it a 2-1 match. Doiron tied the score up at 2-apiece with a 7-5, 6-3 win over Yasmine Giacalone at No. 5 singles.
 
Dean then gave UMass Dartmouth their first lead of the match with a three-set victory (7-5, 4-6, 6-2) against Malina Dinis at No. 2 singles. Graduate student Kayli Langan trailed 6-4 after the first set in the No. 6 position, but she battled back by winning the final two sets 6-4, 6-2 to double the Corsairs advantage to 4-2. Senior Zuri Walters cemented UMass Dartmouth's victory with another three-set win versus Emma Miller at No. 1 singles to defeat the Golden Bears by a final score of 5-2.
 
UMass Dartmouth returns to Little East Conference play on Saturday, September 27th hosting Plymouth State University for a 1:00 p.m. match at the Corsairs Tennis Courts.
