Three Corsairs Earn LEC Weekly Awards

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Little East Conference (LEC) released its weekly awards in women's volleyball featuring three UMass Dartmouth student-athletes. Senior captain Emily Pogorelec was tabbed as Co-Defensive Player of the Week, marking her second honor this season, while junior Skye Peters collected her third Setter of the Week award. Sophomore Olivia Seutter was also recognized as the LEC Offensive Player of the Week for the fifth consecutive week this season. 

Pogorelec averaged 5.13 digs per set as the Corsairs posted two wins in tri-match action on September 27. She finished the day with 41 total digs, adding nine assists and a service ace to help move UMass Dartmouth to a 10-6 overall record. The senior captain opened conference play by recording 10 digs with four assists against Southern Maine to defeat the Huskies 3-0. She then notched a season-best 31 digs, adding five assists and an ace as the Corsairs battled back from down 2-1 to defeat Trinity College (Conn.) by a 3-2 margin. 

Peters had an impressive performance as well during the squad's Saturday tri-match sweep with 66 total assists. She also produced two service aces, 22 total digs and a block assist for the Corsairs. The junior setter posted 30 assists with an ace and seven digs in the opening match versus Southern Maine to secure their first league win of the season. Peters recorded 36 assists with an ace, a block assist and 15 digs during the second match to lift the Corsairs over Trinity (Conn.). 

Seutter also had another standout effort this past weekend recording 39 total kills with just 10 errors on 87 attempts. She added seven digs and two block assists with a team-high 40.0 points. She owned the match-high in kills in both matches on Saturday. Seutter produced a match-best 19 kills with just two errors on 27 swings for a .630 hitting percentage, while adding four digs and a block assist in the 3-0 victory over Southern Maine. She then led the Corsairs with 20 kills along with three digs and a block assist to seal the home sweep in a 3-2 victory over Trinity (Conn.). 

UMass Dartmouth continues Little East action on Friday, October 3rd traveling to Keene State College for a 6:00 p.m. conference tilt.
