Women's Soccer Edged by Suffolk University

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth women's soccer team were edged by Suffolk University, 1-0, in non-conference action from Cressy Field on Tuesday night. The Corsairs are now 1-1-1 on the young season while the Rams improved to a 2-0 overall record.
 
Both sides exchanged early shots in the game as first year Ainsley Christensen fired a shot on frame to test Rams goalkeeper Arden Rose. In the 15th minute of the contest, senior defender Veronica Bock launched a deep shot towards the top right corner, but Rose was able to snag the ball out the air.
 
Around the midway point of the opening half, the Rams broke through to take a 1-0 lead in the game thanks to a score by Vivienne Murphy off the assist from Gianna Maina. First year Natalie Frazier recorded her first shot of the game, but Suffolk held on to their one-goal advantage heading into halftime.
 
First year goalie Marina Cassano checked into the contest for UMass Dartmouth to start the second half and was tested early after posting two stops. The Corsairs continued to battle towards the end of the game as first year Kiariana Williams and Frazier each tallied a shot on target, but the Rams sealed their second win of the season by a final score of 1-0.
 
Suffolk outshot the Corsairs by a narrow 11-10 margin while UMass Dartmouth held a 7-5 advantage in shots on-goal. Both teams earned a pair of corner kicks in the contest while the Rams committed 13 fouls compared to the Corsairs with 10 fouls.
 
Willaims and Frazier each ended the night with three shots apiece in the narrow loss. Junior Adriana Adames, first year Rieanna Murray, Christensen, and Bock all registered one shot on target for the Corsairs.
 
Sophomore goalkeeper Tori Russo opened the game for UMass Dartmouth recording one save and allowing just one goal in the first half. Cassano finished the contest with three stops in net for the Corsairs while Rose posted seven saves for the Rams.
 
UMass Dartmouth host Curry College on Friday, Sept. 5 for their next non-conference fixture. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. from Cressy Field.
