DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's soccer team took down Westfield State University, 3-1, on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action from Cressy Field. Three different Corsairs scored in the victory to improve the team to a 3-1 overall record while the Owls dropped to 1-1 on the season.
UMass Dartmouth opened the scoring early in the game as junior
Matt Kobrenski curved the ball into the top left shelf off the first corner kick of the contest to take a 1-0 lead over Westfield State. The Corsairs doubled their advantage just three minutes later, respectively, as first year
Leonardo Alfama connected with sophomore
Daniel Jordan who netted his 4
th goal of the season to extend the home team's lead to 2-0.
Both teams struggled to generate attacking momentum midway through the first half until first year
Maddox Canario extended UMass Dartmouth's advantage to 3-0 in the 38
th minute. The Corsairs took a quick throw-in on the left sideline that first year
Nick Scanlon chested towards the Owls 18-yard box. Canario battled with the Owls defender before squeezing a shot into the bottom left corner and into the back of the net for his first collegiate goal to put the home team up three-goals heading into halftime.

Jack Martin tested Owls goalkeeper Marko Konoenko, who checked into the game for Westfield State, with a shot on frame that Konoenko saved for his first of the afternoon. The visitors began to put the pressure on the Corsairs backline registering the next six shots with one on target that Corsairs goalkeeper
Ethan Donahue was able to stop. At the 72:04 mark, Westfield State scored their first goal in the afternoon thanks to Dylan Wesley to make it a 3-1 game. Tensions were high in the final 20 minutes of the contest, but UMass Dartmouth was able to hold off Westfield State to seal their third victory of the season by a final score of 3-1 from Cressy Field.
Kobrenski scored his first goal of the season for one point in the win and finished the game with three total shot attempts. Jordan netted his fourth score of the year while Canario posted his first career goal as a Corsair. Scanlon produced his first collegiate assist in the win while Alfama recorded his second helper of the season.
Donahue picked up his third win in net for UMass Dartmouth after registering three saves and allowing just one goal. Luke Theroux allowed three goals in the opening half for the Owls while Konoenko posted one save in the second half for Westfield State.
Corsairs are back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 9 traveling to Framingham State University for their next non-conference fixture starting at 7:00 p.m.
