NEW BEDFORD, Mass. - The University of Southern Maine scored a pair of first period goals and added another in the third enroute to a 3-1 win over UMass Dartmouth in Little East Conference (LEC) on Saturday at Hetland Arena.
The Huskies move to 8-7-1 and 6-2-1 in conference play, while the Corsairs are now 8-7-0 and 3-5-0 in the LEC.
Southern Maine got on the board at 13:16 of the opening period as a shot from rookie right wing Ben Aucoin went five-hole on Corsairs goalie
Marshall McKallip, caroming off the back rail and out for the score.Â
The Huskies made it a 2-0 advantage just over two minutes later as junior center Owen Drummey connected off quick pass by rookie winger Nick Vinson to bank it in on the right side of the net.
Following a scoreless second period of play, the Huskies came out swinging in the final stanza as junior wing Kayde Kinashuck fired a shot past the reach of McKallip off a give-and-go pass from junior center Ethan McDuff at 5:47.
The Corsairs got on the board at 10:17 as a feed from close to the boards from rookie center

Hank McDonough had three. In goal, McKallip recorded 24 stops over 56:35 minutes played, while his counterpart, Morin made 43 stops - including 16 in the second and 17 in the third.
The Corsairs return to action next weekend when they continue LEC play with a home-and-home series against conference travel partner, UMass Boston. UMD heads to Boston for a 7pm game against the Beacons on Friday, before welcoming UMB on Saturday at 4:30pm at Hetland Arena.
