Women's Swimming Hosts UNE on Senior Day

DARTMOUTH, Mass.  – The UMass Dartmouth women's swimming team celebrated their three graduating student-athletes in their final home meet of the season against the University of New England on Saturday afternoon from the Tripp Natatorium. The Corsairs were bested by the Nor'easters by a final score of 171-69.
 
Senior Kylie Winer picked up two first place finishes for the Corsairs. She started the day with a win in the 200-yard freestyle event after clocking in at 2:10.45. She later secured her second victory in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:41.59. Winer also placed third overall in the 50-yard breaststroke for UMass Dartmouth after posting a time of 35.43.
 
Senior Isabella Gerardi also had a strong effort on Senior Day winning the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:48.80. She also captured second place finishes in the 1,000-yard freestyle (12:48.93) and the 50-yard butterfly (31.43) events for the Corsairs.
 
Graduate student Grace Nguyen competed in the 50-yard backstroke for UMass Dartmouth clocking in at 42.82 to secure fifth place. She also swam in the 50-yard freestyle event posting a time of 39.32 for sixth overall. Nguyen wrapped up Senior Day with a fifth place finish in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:26.22.
 
In the 50-yard backstroke, junior Skye Peters won the event after clocking in at 31.89. Peters went on to secure second place in both the 50-yard freestyle (27.87) as well as the 100-yard freestyle (1:03.60).
 
First year Abby Fernandes opened the meet with a third-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 27.91. She then took second overall in the 500-yard freestyle event after clocking in at 6:01.68. The rookie swimmer concluded the meet in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:38.72, good for another third-place finish.
 
In the relay events, UMass Dartmouth finished third overall in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 2:13.01 featuring Peters, Winer, Fernandes, and Nguyen.  
 
UMass Dartmouth travels to Rhode Island College for their final regular season meet of the season on Saturday, January 31 slated for a 10:00 a.m. start time.
