Stewart and McKallip named Player and Goalie of the Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Two from the UMass Dartmouth men's hockey team have been named for Little East Conference (LEC) weekly honors on Monday. Seniors Tyler Stewart and Marshall McKallip were tabbed the conference's Player and Goalie of the Week, respectively, after outstanding performances last weekend against UMass Boston.
 
Stewart, an assistant captain and left wing out of Pittsburgh, Pa., had a career weekend, notching three goals and a career-high four assists for a career-best seven points. He was a +2 on the weekend with eight shots. Two of his goals came on the power play. In a 6-4 victory at UMass Boston on Friday, Stewart assisted on four straight goals for UMD in the opening period – tying a career-high for assists in a game.
 
The senior went on to record his second hat trick of the season, tallying two goals to open the game and adding his third in the final period as the Corsairs defeated the Beacons, 5-2 on Saturday.
 
Through 17 games played, Stewart leads the team in goals with 11, assists with 16 and 27 points. Of his 11 goals, a team-high five have been on the power play, while two have been game-winners. Amongst the LEC's best, Stewart leads the LEC in points and is second in points per game (1.59). He also ranks second in assists, third in assists per game (0.94) and is fourth overall in goals and goals per game (0.65).  
 
McKallip, a goaltender from Pittsburgh, Pa., had a career effort on Saturday against UMass Boston. He recorded a career-high 51 saves, including 24 in the second period, while holding the Beacons scoreless in the first and third periods.
 
On the season, McKallip has played in eight games, including seven as a starter. Over 338:29 minutes of action, the senior has a 4-2-0 record, allowing just 17 goals while making 216 saves. He owns a 3.01 goals-against average with a .927 save percentage.
 
Among the Little East best, McKallip ranks second overall in save percentage. Additionally, he is sixth overall in goals-against average and is seventh in saves per game (27.00).
 
UMass Dartmouth is back on the ice this weekend with another LEC slate. The Corsairs face Vermont State University Castleton on Friday at 7pm before traveling to Norwich University on Saturday for a 4pm tilt.
