WESTFIELD, Mass. – The Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) has announced its weekly honorees in football and UMass Dartmouth student-athlete Jayson Dyer has been named the Rookie of the Week. It marks the first career weekly honor for the freshman after an outstanding effort last week.
Dyer, who hails from Barnstable, Mass., took on a heavy rushing load in the Corsairs 62-14 win over Dean last week, accumulating 159 yards in the game. He carried the ball nine times on the day, averaging 17.7 yards per carry with three total touchdowns.
Highlighting the day was the Corsairs first scoring drive as he ran the ball 57 yards, going on to rush 11 yards and then three yards for the touchdown and a 7-0 lead in the opening quarter (8:20). His second touchdown – which came three minutes later (5:11) – was a nine-yard rush, while his third score of the game was a 44-yard rush (3:32).

Dyer has appeared in all seven games for the Corsairs this season, recording 589 total rushing yards on 68 attempts. He is averaging 84.14 rushing yards per game and 8.7 yards per carry. He currently ranks second on the team with nine rushing touchdowns.

Among the MASCAC leaders, Dyer ranks third in rushing touchdowns and is fourth overall in total touchdowns, total points scored (54), and scoring (7.7). He is currently fifth in all purpose yards (120.43) and seventh in rushing yards per game. In Division III, Dyer ranks 38th overall in rushing touchdowns and is 65th in scoring.

UMass Dartmouth returns to action on Saturday, traveling to Westfield State for a 12pm MASCAC game against the Owls.
