Women's Lacrosse Suffers Tough Loss at Bridgewater State

Terino leads the way with two goals and four assists with game-high 17 draw controls

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Backed by a strong second half effort, Bridgewater State posted a 16-10 victory over UMass Dartmouth on Tuesday in non-conference action. The Corsairs are now 3-5 overall on the season.
 
The Corsairs opened an early 2-0 lead, kicked off by rookie midfielder Carleigh Swenson's 10th goal of the year at 14:26 of the first quarter. Junior midfielder Abby Pitts made it a two-goal advantage at 13:10, connecting off a feed from graduate student attack and captain Emma Terino.
 
Bridgewater State answered just over a minute later as Taylor Carter buried a pass from Katie Lamothe, but the Corsairs stormed right back as junior middie and captain Maddy Allen banked in her 26th of the season for the 3-1 lead at 11:48.
 
The homestanding Bears answered once again, but the 21st tally of the season from Terino at 11:01 saw the Corsairs regain the two-score lead (4-2). BSU continued to battle back as goals from Sophia Fleurent and Kate Fitzpatrick tied the game at 4-all with less than a minute to play in the opening quarter.
 
Into the second quarter, the Bears grabbed the advantage as Fleurent scored on the free position at 14:20 to take the 5-4 lead. Bridgewater State tacked on another goal, but a score by Terino at 4:15 helped send the two teams into the locker room with the home squad up, 6-5.
 
Out of the break, the Bears got another tally before junior attack Jennifer Lins scored at 11:53 off a great pass from Terino to make it a 7-6 margin. Bridgewater State tacked on four straight goals to build up an 11-6 lead until tallies from Allen and junior attack Katie Hague cut the deficit to 11-8 with 4:44 to play in the third.
 
Holding a 12-8 lead into the fourth quarter, Bridgewater State rifled off four more goals for a 16-8 score. The Corsairs were able to net two goals in the final minute of play as rookie midfielders Cat Whitehouse and Carleigh Swenson each scored to make it a six-goal game.
 
Terino led the way for the Corsairs, recording two goal with four assists on the night and a game-high 17 draw controls, while Swenson added two goals and an assist. Allen also had two goals with two caused turnovers, while Pitts posted a goal with two assists. In goal, sophomore Keira Bushey shouldered the loss, recording nine saves.
 
UMass Dartmouth returns to action on Friday, hosting Little East-rival Plymouth State. The Corsairs and the Panthers face-off at 6pm on Cressy Field.
