Kenney Earns Rookie of the Week Honors

Freshman recognized by Little East for solid outing

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Little East has announced its weekly softball honorees and UMass Dartmouth student-athlete Brielle Kenney has been honored as the conference's Rookie of the Week. It marks the first weekly honor for the freshman, who picked up a victory for the Corsairs last week.
 
Kenney, a pitcher from Waterford, Conn., helped the Corsairs to a 5-1 victory over Bridgewater State last Wednesday. She pitched 7.0 innings, allowing just one run (unearned) on three hits. Kenney also struck out eight batters. At the plate, the rookie went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI. She also blasted her first collegiate home run.
 
In six appearances in the circle, Kenney owns a 4-0 overall record. Sporting a 2.03 earned run average, she has allowed 12 runs (11 earned) on 27 hits over 38.0 innings pitched. She owns a team-high 27 strikouts and has surrendered just nine walks on the season. At the plate, Kenney is batting .375 with three hits in eight at-bats, including a home run.
 
Currently, Kenney ranks second in the Little East in earned run average and opponent batting average (.194). She is sixth in strikeouts, seventh in wins and ninth in innings pitched amongst the conference's pitchers.
 
UMass Dartmouth returns to action on Tuesday, hosting Brandeis University in non-conference action. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 2:30pm.
