Women's Lacrosse Edged at Fitchburg State

Corsairs shoulder 14-10 loss to the Falcons

FITCHBURG, Mass. – Despite a game-high four goals from junior captain Maddy Allen, the UMass Dartmouth women's lacrosse team could not overcome a deficit, falling at Fitchburg State University on Tuesday evening. The Corsairs move to 3-7 overall with the tough 14-10 loss.
 
The Corsairs opened the game's scoring at 13:56 of the first as junior attack Abby Pitts fired in a shot off a feed from midfielder Jennifer Lins. Fitchburg buried two goals to take the lead, but Pitts answered against at 7:06 off another pass from Lins for the 2-2 score.
 
Fitchburg State added another goal for a 3-2 lead, but Allen scored unassisted with 1:35 remaining to tie it back up. The Falcons added another score in the final minute and went on to tally six straight into the second quarter to build up a 10-3 lead.
 
Rookie midfielder Carleigh Swenson notched back-to-back goals to close the gap to 10-5, but a tally late by FSU sent the squads into halftime with an 11-5 score.
 
Into the third quarter, the Falcons posted a pair of goals, but Allen took advantage on the man-up at 6:44, followed by a Swenson goal to make it a 13-7 game heading into the final quarter of action.
 
Allen scored a pair of goals and Pitts added another score at 5:42 to make it 14-10, but the Corsairs could not get closer.
 
Leading the Corsairs was Allen, who tallied four goals on eight shots (7 on goal) with three ground balls, three caused turnovers and a game-high 10 draw controls. Pitts recorded three goals, while Swenson also posted three goals with a ground ball and two draw controls. Lins had two assists, while sophomore goalie Keira Bushey made 13 saves.
 
UMass Dartmouth returns to action on Friday, traveling to Salve Regina for a 6pm match against the Seahawks.
