MIDDLETOWN, R.I. – Salve Regina University utilized strong efforts in the second and third quarters to post a non-conference victory over UMass Dartmouth in women's lacrosse action on Friday evening. The Corsairs fall to 3-8 on the season with the loss.
The Corsairs opened the game's scoring at 12:02 of the first quarter as junior attack
Jennifer Lins capitalized on the free position. UMass Dartmouth nearly had the chance to get on the board again but several blocked shots and a shot saved off the stick of rookie midfielder
Cat Whitehouse kept the score at 1-0.
Salve knotted the game up at 7:48 as Nora Cooney scored off an assist from Alix Madden and the Seahawks tallied again with 2:24 remaining on a Madden free position goal for a 2-1 lead at the end of the quarter.
In the second quarter of action, tallies by Delia Tarasco and Teagan McDonald pushed the home team up 4-1, but junior midfielder
Maddy Allen took advantage right down the middle, cutting the gap to two (4-2) with 11:43 remaining. Back-to-back goals from Daniella Bruno made it 6-2 score at 8:24, but a free position score from Allen narrowed the margin once more.
Despite the momentum, the Corsairs could not hold off Salve, who scored three straight until a tally from Allen at 1:05 sent the two teams into halftime with a 9-4 advantage in favor of the host Seahawks.
Third quarter action saw Salve score six straight goals to build up a 15-4 lead until a tally by junior attack
Abby Pitts broke up the run. Earning the caused turnover, freshman midfielder
Cat Whitehouse fed the ball to Pitts to close the gap to 10 (15-5) with 3:44 to play. The Seahawks added one more goal in the third and scored two more into the opening of the fourth for the 18-5 lead.

Carleigh Swenson took advantage on the free position to close the gap for UMass Dartmouth, but despite numerous saves from sophomore goalie
Keira Bushey, the Corsairs could not get closer as the Seahawks added another score in the final minute to conclude the game's scoring with the 19-6 margin.
Allen finished with three goals on the evening, adding two ground balls, six draw controls and a caused turnover. Pitts, Swenson and Lins each had goals, while in goal, Bushey recorded 12 saves over 51:42 minutes. Rookie
Irelynn Marshall also played, totaling 8:18 on the night.
UMass Dartmouth returns to action on Wednesday (Apr. 8), traveling to Keene State for a 6:30pm Little East game against the Owls.
