Women's Lacrosse Shoulders Tough Loss at Worcester State

Corsairs fall 17-5 in non-conference road action

WORCESTER, Mass. – The UMass Dartmouth women's lacrosse team shouldered a tough loss on Thursday in non-conference action at Worcester State University. The Lancers improved to 2-1 with the 17-5 victory, while the Corsairs slip to 0-2 overall.

The Corsairs opened the game's scoring as rookie midfielder Cat Whitehouse netted her first collegiate tally at the 14:07 mark. Worcester State went on a run, scoring four straight goals to end the first and another to open the second quarter for a 5-1 advantage.

Graduate student attack and captain Emma Terino fired one into the back of the net at 9:09, connecting on a pass from sophomore attack Abby Pitts. That goal was followed by a tally from junior midfielder Maddy Allen – who netted her sixth of the season at 7:17 to cut the deficit to 5-3.

Despite the momentum, the Lancers answered with four straight goals into the third quarter for a 9-3 advantage. Whitehouse netted her second of the game at 12:07 for the squad's fourth goal, collecting a feed from classmate and midfielder Carleigh Swenson – which marked her first collegiate point.

Worcester State went on to score eight straight goals into the fourth quarter to open a 17-4 edge. Terino added her second of the contest with 25 seconds remaining to conclude the game's scoring.

Whitehouse scored two goals with four shots (3 on goal), while adding two ground balls and two caused turnovers.
