Emma Terino, the UMass Dartmouth women's lacrosse team posted a 14-6 victory over Maine Maritime Academy on Saturday afternoon. The Corsairs pick up their first win of the 2026 season and are now 1-2 overall, while the Mariners slip to 1-2 on the season.
Terino, an attack, posted a game-high six goals with two assists. All eight of her shots were on goal, while she also won 16 of the games 22 draw controls. Junior midfielder
Maddy Allen added two goals with three assists for five points, while rookie midfielder
Cat Whitehouse had a tremendous game, scoring a goal with a career-high four assists. Rookie defender
Myra Watkins-Rodriguez scooped up a game-high six ground balls and added three caused turnovers, while in goal, sophomore
Keira Bushey earned the victory with six saves.
Maine Maritime opened the game's scoring at 14:03 of the first on a tally by junior midfielder Julia Wade, but the Corsairs answered in a big way, netting six straight goals to open a 6-1 advantage. Junior attack and captain
Katie Hague got things going at 11:32, converting a pass from Whitehouse, who went on to assist goals from sophomore attack
Abby Pitts and Terino to make it a 3-1 game.
Rookie midfielder
Carleigh Swenson posted her first collegiate tally at 8:07 off a feed from Terino, who went on to score on the man-up and again at 1:56 for the 6-1 advantage. The Mariners added another goal just before the end of the quarter for the 6-2 margin.
Second quarter action saw the momentum carry for the visitors as they posted a pair of goals to cut the deficit to 6-4 at 8:40. Allen answered for the Corsairs, followed by back-to-back goals from Terino – both assisted by Allen – to widen the margin to 9-4 into the third quarter of play. Maine Maritime had a third quarter and fourth quarter goal, but UMD posted four straight to end the final quarter of play – all four coming on the man-up opportunity.
The Corsairs owned a 32-16 advantage in shots, including 22-10 on goal. UMass Dartmouth also went 17-20 on the clear with a game-high 25 ground balls to MMA's 23. The home squad also owned a dominant 17-5 margin in draw controls.
UMass Dartmouth returns to action on Wednesday at 6pm when it welcomes Mass. Maritime Academy to Cressy Field.
