CASTLETON, Vt. – Junior
Maddy Allen recorded a game-high four goals, but it wasn't enough as the UMass Dartmouth women's lacrosse team shouldered a tough Little East Conference loss at Vermont State University Castleton on Saturday. UMD moves to 3-10 overall and 0-4 on the season.
The Corsairs opened a 2-0 advantage in the first quarter as Allen posted back-to-back tallies just over a minute apart. Allen struck again at 14:26 of the second quarter and a tally from junior attack
Jennifer Lins made it a 4-0 lead for UMass Dartmouth at 13:16.
Behind five unanswered goals, including two apiece from Megan Culp and Renny Cota, the home team nabbed a 5-4 lead heading into halftime.
The Spartans added three straight goals to open the third quarter. Sophomore
Abby Pitts scored on the man-up at 4:42, narrowing the deficit to 8-5, but two more goals by VTSU saw it become a 10-5 score.
Allen tallied at 4:12 of the fourth quarter, notching her 45th goal of the season, but the Spartans added a final goal for the 11-6 final score.
In addition to her four goals, Allen added four ground balls, three caused turnovers and a game-high nine draw controls. Pitss had a goal with two ground balls and a caused turnovers, while Lins added a goal and a ground ball. Rookie defenseman
Myra Watkins-Rodriguez notched a game-high seven caused turnovers. In goal, sophomore
Keira Bushey recorded 20 saves.
UMass Dartmouth returns to action on Wednesday, welcoming UMass Boston at 7pm in the Corsairs Game of the Week on Cressy Field.
