PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The UMass Dartmouth softball team captured a game two win to split a non-conference doubleheader at Johnson & Wales University on Thursday afternoon. The Corsairs move to 18-8 overall with the 7-3 game two victory. The Wildcats claimed game one by a 7-3 margin.
The Corsairs got things going in the top of the first as senior catcher
Lena Tsonis singled with a pair of runners on, bringing home senior third baseman
RaeLynn Perregaux for the 1-0 advantage. In the next at-bat, junior
Lily Routhier singled up the middle as rookie first baseman
Bre Fontes came home to score.
In the bottom of the frame, the homestanding Wildcats tied it up as a single by catcher Macy Pagano singled down the left field line to drive in a pair of runs for a 2-2 score. Bottom of the fourth saw UMass Dartmouth regain the lead as sophomore
Nina O'Neil grounded out with Routhier coming home on the play.

Brielle Kenney went on to single soon after, bringing in senior second baseman
Emma Talpey as the visitors nabbed a 4-2 lead. The Wildcats added another run in the bottom of the fourth, but the Corsairs closed out the scoring in the top of the sixth as Perregaux belted a three-run homer to centerfield for the 7-3 advantage.
Perregaux went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three runs batted in, while Routhier was 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Kenney was 1-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI as Tsonis had a hit and an RBI.
In the circle, sophomore
Edy Crawford went the distance, allowing three runs on five hits over 7.0 innings. She struck out one batter.
The Corsairs scored first in the doubleheader opener as Fontes sent a sacrifice fly to right to bring in junior outfielder
Olivia Ali. JWU answered in the bottom of the third as a bases loaded walk, followed by a sacrifice fly gave the Wildcats a 2-1 lead.
In the fifth, a double, single and a home run in the frame saw the home team take a 7-1 advantage through five complete. The sixth inning saw junior catcher
Olivia Silva single up the middle to score Ali, while a single to left by Routhier helped close the gap to 7-3, but the Corsairs could not get closer.
Ali was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, while Silva was 1-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Routhier and Fontes each had a run batted in. In the circle, Kenney went 4.2 innings, allowing seven runs on nine hits with five strikeouts. Rookie
Aubry Mabrouk pitched 1.1 innings of relief, allowing one hit with a strikeout.
The Corsairs return to action on Tuesday, April 21, traveling to New Hampshire for a Little East doubleheader against Keene State. First pitch is set for 2:30pm.
