Softball Duo Tabbed for Weekly LEC Honors

Perregaux and Edwards garner Player and Rookie of the Week recognition

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Little East Conference has announced its weekly honorees in softball and two UMass Dartmouth student-athletes have been recognized. Senior RaeLynn Perregaux and freshman Chloe Edwards were named the Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, after recording incredible efforts to help the Corsairs go 4-0 last week.
 
Perregaux, a third baseman from Torrington, Conn., had a career week for UMass Dartmouth. She batted an astounding .813 (13-of-16) last week, recording eight runs scored and 12 runs batted in – both team-high's – as a starter in all four games. Of her 13 hits, four were doubles, one a triple and two were home runs. She had a .824 on-base percentage to go along with a 1.563 slugging percentage on the week.
 
In a 12-2 game one win (5 innings) at Keene State on Tuesday, she went 4-for-4 with three runs scored and six runs batted in. In addition to a double, Perregaux belted a two-run and a three-run home run in the top of the fifth against the Owls. In game two, she went 4-for-4 again with two runs scored and three runs batted in – hitting a pair of doubles in the contest.
 
Perregaux went on to hit 4-for-5 with two runs scored and three RBI in a 17-4 game one (6 inning) win at WestConn on Saturday. She posted a double in that contest before going 1-for-3 in an 8-5 game two win over the Wolves – which saw her hit a triple with a run scored.
 
On the season, Perregaux is batting a team-high .441 (49-of-111) as a starter in all 30 games. Of her hits, she has recorded 15 doubles, two triples and five home runs – all team-high's. Perregaux has produced 31 runs scored with 26 RBI – also team-high's – and has a .748 slugging percentage to go along with a .475 on-base percentage. In 111 at-bats, she has walked just seven times and struck out only three times.
 
Edwards, a shortstop from Windham, Maine, batted .545 at the plate last week as a starter in all four games. She went 6-for-11 overall with six runs scored and seven runs batted in. Of her six hits, one was a triple and one was a home run – the first of her collegiate career.
 
In game one against Keene, she went 2-for-2 with two runs scored, before going 1-for-2 with a run scored and two runs batted in during the game two victory. Against WestConn, she went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and four runs batted in. In addition to a triple, she also belted her first collegiate home run over the left field wall. In the finale against the Wolves, she was 1-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI.
 
On the season, Edwards has started 28 games, sporting a .269 batting average. She has gone 18-of-67 at the plate with 12 runs scored and 14 runs batted in. Of her hits, three have been doubles, in addition to the triple and home run.
 
UMass Dartmouth returns to action on Tuesday with the Corsairs Game of the Week against Eastern Connecticut State University. The Corsairs will square off against the Warriors at 2:30pm and 4:30pm in doubleheader action and a critical Little East match-up.
