Baseball Falls at #22 Endicott on Wednesday

Corsairs shoulder tough loss at nationally-ranked Gulls

BEVERLY, Mass. – The UMass Dartmouth baseball team shouldered a tough loss at nationally-ranked Endicott College on Wednesday. The Corsairs move to 12-14 overall with the 9-1 loss to the #22 Gulls.
 
Endicott opened the scoring in the bottom of the second as a walk to AJ Hamm saw Brenden Walsh attempt to steal third. He came home on a throwing error for the 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the third, the Gulls broke open the game as a bases loaded walk to Paul Armstrong pushed the second run across.
 
The Gulls saw Finn Adams reach on a fielder's choice as another run crossed the plate, while a single to Adam Regan drove in a pair of runs for the 4-0 margin. A single to the shortstop by TJ Liponis saw two more runs cross at the home team owned a 6-0 lead after three complete.
 
In the bottom of the sixth, two more runs came in on a single from Walsh for the 9-0 lead. The Corsairs got on the board in the bottom of the seventh as a ground out by rookie right fielder Sam Bradford saw a run come in.
 
Bradford went 1-for-3 with an RBI, while rookie left fielder Mike Huntington had a run scored. Senior designated hitter Liam Blesi also had a hit in the game. Junior Aiden Newhall shouldered the loss, allowing seven runs (2 earned) on four hits over 2.2 innings of work. He recorded four strikeouts. Classmate Dillon Harding went 2.1 innings, allowing no runs on two hits with a strikeout, while senior Ray Boutiette pitched 3.0 innings, allowing two runs on four hits with two K's.
 
UMass Dartmouth returns to action on Thursday, welcoming WPI at 3:30pm.
