Sophomore hurler recognized after outstanding week for the Corsairs

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Little East Conference has announced its weekly award winners in softball and UMass Dartmouth student-athlete Edy Crawford has been recognized. The sophomore was named the conference's Pitcher of the Week after an outstanding effort for the Corsairs last week.
 
Crawford, who hails from Exeter, N.H., posted a 1-1 overall record in three appearances last week for the Corsairs. She allowed just two runs (0 earned) on nine hits over 16.0 innings pitched. In addition to two complete games, she also pitched a shutout and recorded a save. Crawford walked just one batter on the week and struck out 11.
 
In an 8-4 win over Eastern Connecticut State on Tuesday, Crawford pitched the final two innings, allowing no runs on just one hit with a strikeout and a walk to secure her second save of the season. She then allowed two runs (0 earned) on five hits over 7.0 innings of a tough 2-0 loss to the Warriors in game two. She did not walk a batter and struck out four.
 
Crawford went on to pitch a 7.0 inning complete game shutout, besting Vermont State University Castleton in game two on Saturday. In that outing, allowed just three hits and had no walks while striking out six batters.
 
In 23 appearances this season, Crawford has gone 10-8 overall, sporting a 2.59 earned run average. In a team-high 116.0 innings pitched, she has allowed 60 runs (43) earned on 129 hits with 51 total strikeouts. Of her 23 appearances, 19 have been as a starter, while 13 have been complete games. Crawford has a shutout to her credit with two total saves.
 
UMass Dartmouth returns to action this week in the Little East Conference Tournament – hosted by top-seeded Vermont State University Castleton. The Corsairs – the second-seed in the six-team field – earned the first round by and will face the winner of #3 Plymouth State and #6 UMass Boston on Thursday, May 7 in the middle game of the day.
