DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Director of Athletics and Recreation
Lori Hendricks announced the hiring of
Alex Nelson as the next Assistant Director of Athletic Communications at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. In his new role, Nelson will work with Director of Athletic Communications, Amie Canfield, in the promotion and coverage of all 21 Corsairs' programs. He begins with the Corsairs staff on June 8.
"I am excited to welcome Alex back to the Little East Conference where he got his start. He will be an integral member of our staff providing both statistical coverage for contests and student-athlete promotion," said Hendricks. "With the expansion of our athletic program and continuing success of all our teams, we have many stories to tell."
Nelson joins the Corsairs staff after serving the past season as a graduate assistant at Division I Merrimack, where he worked with a number of Warriors' sports including, baseball, football, field hockey, men's & women's basketball, men's and women's volleyball and men's & women's golf.
In addition to oversight of the Merrimack College Athletics website, Nelson also helped manage the social media presence for a number of sports. Additionally, he provided in-game photography and recorded highlights during games.
Nelson came to Merrimack following an undergraduate career at Plymouth State University that saw him work in the Athletic Communications Office for three years. During that time, he helped with in-game statistics for nearly every Panthers' team. He also helped maintain the athletics website, updating team and player statistics each season.
A 2025 graduate of Plymouth State University, Nelson earned his Bachelor's in Sports Statistics and Analytics. He completed his Master's in Communications from Merrimack College in May of 2026.
