Michael Johnson Named Assistant Director for Club & Intramural Sports

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Director of Athletics and Recreation Lori Hendricks announced the hiring of Michael Johnson as the next Assistant Director for Club and Intramural Sports. In his new role for the Corsairs, Johnson will work alongside Associate Director of Athletics for Recreation & Sports Performance, Greg Homol. He will join the department on June 22.
 
"The University is invested in its intramural and club sport activities for its growing student population.  Michael was the right candidate to help us expand our programming," stated Hendricks. "Under his leadership, we also see the opportunities available for our students to gain valuable work experience as officials and supervisors.  We are very excited about the future of UMass Dartmouth recreation."
 
Johnson joins the Corsairs staff after serving the past three seasons as the Assistant Director of Sport Programs & Camp at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. In that role, he oversaw and managed all aspects of intramural and club sports programming, including supervision of staff and coordination of events.
 
In addition to oversight of daily operations, maintenance and reservations at the UTC Sports Complex, he served as Chief Camp Director, leading the development, coordination and execution of the Mocs Adventure Camp summer camp program.
 
Prior to his work at Tennessee, Johnson served as a Recreation & Athletics Specialist at Seattle Central College. There, he planned, organized and managed sports and recreational activities for diverse populations in collaboration with student committees, recreation clubs and community organizations.
 
Johnson also served as a Community Center Supervisor at Macon-Bibb Government, in addition to serving as a local coordinator for the Special Olympics of Georgia. He was also a program director for the Center for Excellence in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
 
A 2014 graduate of Middle Tennessee State, Johnson earned his Bachelors in Exercise Science. He went on to earn his Master of Athletic Administration from Ohio University in 2019.
